The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) is the umbrella public relations body of Uganda. It is affiliated with other regional and global public relations bodies such as the Eastern African Public Relations Association (EAPRA), the African Public Relations Associations (APRA) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

Brief History:

  The association was founded in 1976 as an umbrella organization of all public relations practitioners and professionals in public and private institutions in Uganda and has its headquarters in the capital, Kampala.

  The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) is an umbrella organization for all public relations professional and Practioner in Uganda working in both private and public institutions.

  It is a non political and non –sectarian organization with its affiliation to the federation of all Africa Public Relation Association (APRA) and International Public Relations Association (IPRA). In 2007 PRAU joined Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) as an associate member. The association membership has the following categories: corporate which extends to organizations, honorary membership which extends to personalities who may have distinguished themselves as collaborators in public relations efforts, life membership, ordinary and student members. A new category was introduced to cater for the small to medium PR, Communication and Event Management firms and agencies.  Click for fee structure details

   Since its foundation in 1976, the association is guided by its constitution in keeping with the laws of Uganda.

Aims and objectives include:

  • To encourage and promote the development of public relations professionalism and practice in Uganda through training, apprenticeship and assemblies.
  • To provide counsel and consultancy on public relations manpower, development and operations to national institutions, organizations and any other interested parties.
  • To act as a clearing house and reference center on public relations personnel recruitment and assessment.
  • To instill and maintain a high degree of professional integrity among members as prescribed by the code of ethics.
  • To organize / arrange meetings, tours, lectures, discussions, conferences and seminars for practitioners and/or management or both to enable them exchange views, ideas, experiences information etc in the interest of the profession.
  • To publish periodically a bulletin containing information and news of general interest for circulation to members.
